Increasing number of pushups?

I'm trying to increase the number of pushups I can do. I also practice Mixed Martial Arts. Would it be best to do one set until failure every other day or do a number of sets and repetitons such as 3X30 every other day? I am correct in doing them every other day so I have a day's rest to recover while trying to increase the number I can do?
