Heart Rate Variability

How do you feel about using HRV (heart rate variability) products to control phases of training? These tools are relatively inexpensive and can be used through personal smartphones. Taking a daily reading allows the athlete or coach to see levels of CNS readiness, recovery, and fatigue and to plan training and make adjustments accordingly. Some of the companies making these products are iThlete, BioForce, and Omegawave. Olympic teams have used these tools going back several decades and the tool was originally designed for the Soviet space program. This seems like a great way to take the guesswork out of the training process.
